Martha "Marti" Anderson

August 30, 1960 — July 16, 2019

Martha Lynn (Flittner) Anderson of Wilson, Wyoming, 58, died Tuesday, July 16, 2019 in Idaho Falls, Idaho at the Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center.

Her family provided the following information:

Marti was born in Peoria, Illinois to Sandy and Wayne Flittner on August 30, 1960.  Her childhood was spent in Peoria along the Illinois River, enjoying summer days filled with sailing and afternoons horseback riding in the Midwest. She attended Bergen High School, Peoria, Illinois, and the University of Arizona at Tucson, prior to moving to San Diego, CA to begin her professional career.  She worked in Los Angeles, CA at TICOR Realty Tax Service where she met her husband, Eric Anderson of Laguna Hills, CA.  Marti held multiple executive positions in the mortgage banking and service industry on the west coast, the Midwest and the east coast for more than thirty years. She earned Executive Leadership Certifications from Dartmouth’s Tuck School of Business and Harvard/MIT.

Marti and Eric were married in October of 1991 in Washington, D.C. at St. John Episcopal Church of the Presidents.  A job opportunity for Marti with Norwest Mortgage (Wells Fargo) required a move to Des Moines, IA and then to Gramercy Park in New York, NY, prior to returning to Washington, D.C. to work for Wells Fargo in Frederick, MD and Fannie Mae in Washington, DC.

During Marti’s years in Washington, D.C. she pursued her long-time passion of English riding.  She was an active equine enthusiast in the Maryland horse country. Marti started as a hunter-jumper and purchased her beloved horses, Jackson and then Max.  She rode every weekend with the Maryland dressage riders at Wyndham Oaks Stables and other nearby facilities.  Marti looked forward to long weekend trail rides with her companions and friends in metropolitan Washington, DC.

Marti’s professional career and spirit of adventure took her many places around the world.  She had the good fortune to travel to Argentina, Australia, Belgium, Belize, Colombia, France, Gibraltar, Great Britain, Ireland, and Spain often visiting stables, riding clubs abroad, and even mustering cattle in the Outback.  She spoke fondly of her trip to Patagonia in 2006 accompanied by her father, fly-fishing in the Trevlin Esquel region of the Rio Grande River and trail riding in the Chubut Province.

As a dedicated equestrian, Marti volunteered for several different riding organizations for more than twenty years.  While in Maryland, Marti spent many weekends volunteering for the Great and Small Organization, a Professional Association of Therapeutic Riding (PATH) certified riding center in the greater Washington, D.C. area.

Four years ago, Marti and her husband, Eric, relocated to Wilson, WY to be near her parents who retired in the community of Jackson in 2004. While in Jackson, Marti cherished summer days fly-fishing with her father and friends on the Snake River, riding at the Flying W in Wilson, and honoring our United States Military Veterans on every Memorial Day by placing flags with her veteran father at Jackson Hole cemeteries within the majestic Grand Tetons.

Marti is survived by her husband, Eric Anderson of Wilson, WY, her parents, Sandy and Wayne Flittner of Jackson, WY, her older sister, Debbie and her husband, Brian, of Burbank, CA, her nephew, Christopher (Washington, D.C.) and her niece, Carrie (Highland Park, IL) She will be missed by her rescue hound Parker and retired thoroughbred Max.  Her family will always treasure her quick wit, her sense of humor, her lighthearted tricks, and her never-ending love for her family and dear friends.

The family would like to thank all local community members and nationwide friends who have shown support, love and thoughtfulness.  In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests that donations be made to the Marti Anderson Memorial Fund newly created by the Jackson Hole Therapeutic Riding Association. This fund was established to honor Marti’s memory which will support the purchase and the care for the organization’s present and future horses.

A Celebration of Life Gathering will be held at the historic American Legion Hall, 191 North Cache, Jackson, WY 83001 on August 7, 2019 from 4:00-7:00 p.m.
