KayLea Weber

Kay Lea Stilson Weber left this earth in the early morning hours of October 14, 2019 after a long illness. She was born on August 25, 1961 in Idaho Falls, Idaho and was the light of her mother Dorothy’s life. She spent her early years living the ranching lifestyle in Moran, Wyoming, where her parents worked on one of the ranches in the northern end of the valley.  She began school in Moran but soon moved with her mother to Jackson.

Kay Lea was quick to make friends and always loved school activities.  In her High School years graduating with the class of 1980,  she was part of the Distributive Education Clubs of America (DECA) in fashion merchandising where she competed with other students from across the state and nation…..Kay Lea usually took home an award or two.  She was always willing to go to a ball game, cruise around town, or hang out in front of Jackson Drug with friends, when we were all supposed to be in the Teton Theatre.

That’s where she met the love of her life, Ron Weber.  They hit it off over a conversation of what you call the glove compartment in a vehicle.  Kay Lea and the rest of her friends knew it as a “jockey box”, and Ron disagreed.  It was a spirited conversation that led to marriage on September 26, 1981.

Kay Lea loved working with and for people. She held numerous jobs from Dirty Jacks Theatre to Ann’s Apparel, and from Mr. Scratchit to Belle Cose’.  She was one of the most trusted caretakers in town, making sure important possessions and properties were well maintained and cared for.

Kay Lea loved going places with Ron.  In the earlier years of their marriage, they spent a lot of time up at Jackson Lake on their boat, camping and soaking up the sun.  After a few years of marriage, Ron took a job in Jeffrey City for a couple of years as an equipment operator, and Kay Lea went right along with him.  She enjoyed hiking and exploring the area.  Ron and Kay Lea would travel back there every year for a get away, to enjoy the desert scenery.  They also enjoyed going to Talladega for the NASCAR races.  Those trips were always an adventure.

Kay Lea was diagnosed with a debilitating disease about 30 years ago, but that didn’t stop her.  Her determination to beat whatever it was, kept her going.  She would make doctor visits in Salt Lake City an outing, sometimes just for lunch.  She would take road trips with her mother to see specialists.  She would take a mini vacation with Ron to check in with the doctors.  And when the doctors told her she didn’t have long to live, she would respond with “I want you to take in to account where I live, what I do for a living, and my determination, then you tell me how long I have to live”.  They had no answer.  They told her in August she only had a couple of weeks of life left, and that was two months ago.  That lust for life, determination to live and infectious smile will be missed.

Kay Lea was preceded in death by her parents, Dorothy and Ray Barker, and father Glen Stilson.  She is survived by her husband Ron Weber, along with friends and family too numerous to mention, but they know who they are.   Burial will be October 24, 2019 at 9:00 am, Aspen Hill Cemetery, with services to follow at 11:00 am at the Presbyterian Church of jackson Hole, 1251 South Park Loop Road, Jackson. Ron would request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in Kay Lea’s name to the Presbyterian Church ​https://pcjh.org/donate/
