Carolynn Hawtin

May 4, 1946 — December 29, 2018

Carolynn Riggan Hawtin passed away peacefully on December 29, 2018 at home surrounded by family.  Carolynn was born on May 4, 1946 to Beulah and Garl Riggan at St. John’s Hospital, a log building on the grounds of the current St. John’s Episcopal Church in Jackson, Wyoming.  She was welcomed home by her older sister Marilynn Riggan Mullikin.  Growing up on Kelly Street, she attended schools in Jackson graduating in 1964 from Jackson-Wilson High School.  Carolynn continued her education at the University of Wyoming where she was a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority and Corpettes, a woman’s honorary auxiliary to the University of Wyoming Army ROTC unit.  In 1969, she graduated with a bachelor’s degree in elementary education.  Carolynn began teaching at the Wilson School shortly thereafter.  Her teaching career continued when she purchased Teton Preschool located at the American Legion building.  Continuing her passion for education, she served as President of the Board.  Carolynn was also appointed by Governor Gerringer to the State Board of Education.  Carolynn’s service to Jackson included being a member of the Teton County Board of Realtors where she was honored with special recognition for Outstanding Community Service.  Carolynn also was a member of the Senior Center Board and then Teton Youth and Family Service Board.  A lifelong member of St. John’s Episcopal Church, Carolynn faithfully served her church family throughout her life.  She served as acolyte, lector, chalice bearer, member of the altar guild, multiple search committees, and as a Vestry member.  Carolynn attended 72 Christmas Eve services at St. John’s Church most recently this Christmas Eve.  Carolynn was a Realtor in Jackson for over 30 years.  She started her career with Jeanie Staehr and Pete Karns at Teton Realty. Later, they joined Bob Graham at Real Estate of Jackson Hole where they were all partners.  Carolynn was Guardian of Bethel #37 of Jackson and a member of Jackson Hole Chapter #50 of the Order of the Eastern Star.  She is remembered by friends and colleagues for her professionalism, hearty laugh, and positive attitude.  She loved the business and welcoming of new people to Jackson Hole.

Carolynn married Gary Elliott in 1968.  In 1980, Carolynn married Bruce Arthur Hawtin and combined thier families.  Carolynn and Bruce loved traveling, hiking and spending time with their children and grand children.

She is survied by her husband Bruce Arthur Hawtin and her sister Marilynn Riggin Mullikin and her children Brandon Riggan Elliott in 1971 and Cameron G. Riggan in 1975; Brandon’s spouse Elizabeth Huggins Elliott; her stepchildren and their spouses: Erin Susanne Bayne and Steven James Bayne; Stefan Nils Zimmers and Hallie Marie Zimmers; eight grandchildren: Mason Riggan Elliott, Thomas Wesley Elliott, Aidan James Bayne, Anna DeLacy Elliott, Caitlyn Eleanor Bayne, Declan Arthur Bayne, Dane Hawtin Zimmers and Kellen David Zimmers.
