Andrea Jane (Berkland) Duffy

February 15, 1940 ~ March 8, 2019 (age 79)

Andrea Jane Duffy passed away at her home in Jackson on March 8, 2019 after a short battle with cancer. She was 79 years young.

Andrea was born in Parkers Prairie, Minnesota on Feb 15th, 1940 to Stan and Ann Berkland.

Andrea’s father, Stan, was a carpenter, and as it was toward the end of the depression, Andrea’s family traveled to find work. Her family moved to Heron, South Dakota where she spent her early school age years. After that, her family moved throughout South Dakota finally settling in Rapid City where Andrea graduated from high school.

It was in Rapid City that she met her future husband and best friend Roland “Duffy” Duffy. They where married on November 14, 1959. Andrea was 19 and Duffy was 20. Andrea and Duffy spent their first seven years of marriage living in Rapid City.

Andrea worked for Cook Paint store in Rapid City and helped her husband with his construction business. Andrea had an eye for design and drafted all the homes that her husband built in South Dakota.

In 1960 Andrea and Duffy drove through Jackson, WY and always said if they could make a living, they would move here. In 1967, Rapid City was in a financial slump and construction work was scarce, so they packed up and moved to Jackson!

When Andrea arrived, she worked for her husband in their construction business. After a few years, when construction slowed, Andrea started working for Don Ryan. She managed the Color Center and Ryan Drywall for the next 30 years.

Andrea was a fixture at the Color Center. She could match a color from any scrap of wood, paint flake, or chunk of drywall you brought in. Not only could she match colors, she also doled out some solid advice.  Many a painter would find themselves on the little couch in her office getting a dose of Andrea therapy.

Andrea retired at 65 and enjoyed some time traveling with her husband. They especially enjoyed the desert southwest and spent two winters in Hurricane, UT.

Andrea spent the summers during her retirement working on her flower patch. If you have driven down HWY 89 just before the Storage Stables on the right. You would see a little chunk of highway right of way that was full of bright flowers all summer. It always made her smile every time someone would stop on the bike path and thank her for her efforts.

The last few years Andrea and Duffy didn’t leave in the winter. Andrea enjoyed being at home. She had designed the house they lived in. Andrea and Duffy had built the home together and raised a family in it. She just wanted to stay home by the fire and read a good book.

Andrea always looked forward to people coming to see her and listened with enthusiasm to their plans and projects. She always wanted pictures and a report on your progress.

She was a truly selfless person. And will be dearly missed.

She is survived by her husband and best friend Roland “Duffy” Duffy, her daughters Nikki Dodd and LaRee Tribitt and their husbands Klyde and John, and her grandsons TaZin and his wife Nicole, Keslen, Kalan and Bru’N.

A memorial service will be held at the Jackson Hole Conference Center at 920 West Broadway. The Service will be at 3:00 PM Saturday March 23.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that a donation be made to the Huntsman Cancer Center or St. John’s Hospice.
